Saskatoon Home Neighbourhoods: Forest Grove / Erindale / Arbour Creek
This area is nestled north of College Drive to the south and Attridge Drive to the north and east of the CPR railyards. Forest Grove is west of Berini Drive, and Erindale is east of Berini and orth or Kerr Road, and Arbour Creek is south of Kerr Rd. The community has many curved collector roads, which connect to the main thoroughfares out of the community.
Present-day Forest Grove was once owned & developed by the Canadian Pacific Railway when they built the settlement of Sutherland in 1909. Most of the land was annexed into Saskatoon in the late 1950s, but the land along GrayAvenue (adjoining the railyards) was part of Sutherland and was re-designated as part of Forest Grove in the 1990s. Most of the homes were build over the 1970s and 1980s and are a mix of single-family detached houses and mutiple-unit apartment buildings.
The land that is now part of Erindale was annexed into Sasktoon in stags in the 1950s, the 1970s and the early 1980s. Most of the homes here were build since the mid 1980s, on streets named for local famous artists. Arbour Creek lies in the south part of Erindale, and has a parkland corridor following a creek of the same name, though only a recreational path marks the creek's route.
This apart of Saskatoon has 2 public elementary schools and 2 Catholic elementary schools. High school students attend their schools nearby. The closest public library is in nearby Sutherland, and the community is close to both the University of Saskatchewan campus and the West Co-op College.
There are three commercial strips in the area , along Gray Avenue (beside the CPR railyards), at Kenderdine & Kerr, and in a strip mall along 115th Street just west of Kenderdine. To the north is the Preston Crossing big-box complex provides lots of shopping for area residents.
This are has four large parks: 21 acre Les Kerr (with two schools, 6 ball diamonds and two sports fields), 13 acre Ernest Linder (with 2 schools, 5 ball diamonds, and outdoor skating rink, tennis & basketball courts, and a summer splash park), and 21 acre John Avant Park (with a pond), and Arbour Creek Park (with several sports fields, a ball diamond, and tennis courts)., The Sutherland-Forest Grove Community Association and the Erindale/Arbor Creek Community Association run a number of recreation programs in the community.
Forest Grove is a middle income neighbourhood with a mix of single-family detached homes and some multiple-unit apartment dwellings. Average home price is $15,000 (2006) and 65% are owner-occupied. Erindale is a high income area with mostly (95%) single-family owner-occupied detached hoes and an average value of $225,000 (2006).
