Scanners are wonderful devices to convert printed documents or text into digital files. The technology has improved significantly over the years, in terms of compactness of hardware, speed and effectiveness of software, and the reduction in price levels. Today's scanning products not only scan the image to create a digital picture (typically in JPEG, BMP, or TIFF formats) but also run optical character recoginitions (OCR) software to convert images of text into text files (typically Word or TXT formats). There are flatbed scanners, sheet scanners, and even business card scanners to handle almost any scanning task.
